Couple donates $923,000 to build new library

The Rauchholz Memorial Library in Hemlock, Michigan is getting an overhaul.

James and Mary Jean Foye have gifted 40% of their estate to the library after James passed earlier this year. Frequent visitors of the library, the Foye’s wishes were that their money would be used to build and maintain a brand new facility for the community to enjoy. The donation of $923,000 came as a complete surprise to the library staff and director, but has jump started a renovation.

“If it wasn’t for that seed money that they left the library we’re building, we would not be doing what we’re doing right now and this wouldn’t even be discussed. It was because of their donation of their estate that set all this in motion,” the library director said in an interview with The Saginaw News.

After receiving the Foye’s donation, the library has raised over $1.4 million toward the new building. Some of the plans for the library include creating greater accessibility, adding new technology, and building new rooms for studying and community events.
