We have spoken at hundreds of events over the years about Michigan Estate Planning, Elder Law and other senior issues.  Whether we are talking to seniors, business organizations, government offices or other groups, there is one common comment we get:  “We understand you.  You actually speak in plain English, not like most lawyers”.  We have had so many people tell us that lawyers often “talk down” to them or speak in code sections or legalese. With that in mind, we have taken it to the next level.  We put together a series of short, animated, and easily understandable videos on legal topics.  We call it our Elder Care Whiteboard Video Series.  Topics range anywhere from Michigan estate planning, elder law and probate, to Michigan planning for Veterans, to Michigan special needs planning.  The videos are short and sweet and give some great overviews of Michigan law in plain English.  The first video is titled “What is estate planning?” and covers the basic elements of any good estate plan.  For example:

  • How to plan for incapacity – the discussion involves a Michigan Durable Power of Attorney and Michigan Patient Advocate Designation (otherwise known as a Health Care Power of Attorney, Living Will or Advance Directive)
  • How to transfer your assets to your children or loved ones without probate or added taxes and costs;
  • Do you need to protect your beneficiary after he or she receives his or her inheritance?

Here is a link to our first video, there are many more on lots of different topics.  We’d love to know what you think!
