Dj Sumirock, 82-year old DJ at her turntable

Eighty-two is proving to be a fruitful age for Sumiko Iwamuro, aka DJ Sumirock. The octogenarian has recently risen to popularity in Japan as a dance club DJ. Iwamuro has always had a passion for music, but spent most of her time helping out her family as a dumpling cook at their restaurant. It was only when she reached her 70s that she began practicing with turntables, and was able to take a year long DJ-training course at a local music school. Her unique perspective has helped her to create a distinctive sound, fusing techno music with jazz and classical.
